My husband and I will taking our 23 year old and 27 year old to Iceland for 4 days in September. We like touring, eating at great restaurants, shopping, looking for local art work. Would love help in planning trip as I am at the beginning of the process!!

Get yourself a guidebook or two, and a map. There are all kinds of tours available, and you can also rent a car at that time of year without much stress. I wouldn't count on eating at great restaurants - Iceland is not a culinary treasure. Would suggest avoiding the vastly overpriced Blue Lagoon and visiting one or more of the wonderful local hotsprings/spas. There are art galleries everywhere in Reykyavik, music and fashion all over. It's a very avant-garde city. The free student-led tours of the city are wonderful.

But you do need to do your own research and figure out what will work for you. We've been in Iceland twice in the past two years and spent a GOOD deal of time figuring out what would appeal to us according to our interests. We never got out of Reykyavik either time, there was just so much wonderful to do in the city. You obviously have many other options, but not for me to say what would appeal to you.

Yes, I'm afraid your needs are too broad right now. I'd also suggest reading a guidebook, looking at the country overviews on the Fodor's site, so simply Googling some of the Iceland tourist sites first. Then when you've narrowed things down a bit we'd be happy to help.

Iceland is wonderful!!! Yes a guidebook or two will help. We had very good meals in Iceland. Snaps Bistro was excellent and our kids (near your kids ages) are there now and also had a fantastic meal there. Definitely get out of the city as well. The countryside is gorgeous! We were just there this fall and are headed back soon.
