Planning for Trip to Spain
 

I am planning a trip to Spain from April 6 - April 14th. I will be flying into Madrid from Bangkok and plan to fly back from there. Wish to go to Barcelona, then Seville, Granada, Cordoba. Barcelona first as want to see Barcelona FC play on the weekend at Camp Nou

Please help with a possible itenary. Also preferred means of transport (plan to take public transport) and possible ballpark cost for the trip.

Even with high-speed trains that is way too much for 8 days - Barcelona and Madrid would be fine or Madrid and others. Check out train schedules at www.renfe.com and book online for discounted tickets.

Madrid-Barcelona figure 4 hours all told each way

Barcelona-Seville fly or 6 hours on trains

Hit Cordoba on way back to Madrid as few-hour stop- forget Granada can't possibly do all that.

Do you have your football tickets already?

Are you sure that you can see and experience what you want with this plan in this time frame? This plan sounds unpleasantly ambitious to me – too much time in transit for far too little time to actually see or do anything while in any of these fascinating places. If you haven’t already done so, I strongly recommend that you plot your trip – and the places you hope to visit – on a calendar.

Something to consider. IIRC game dates and times can change. You need enough flexibility to be in Barcelona when the game is played not when it's initially scheduled.

You'd have a workable itinerary if you just did Barcelona - Seville and Madrid.

Figure $300/day for nice hotel and restaurants - transportation depends on what kind of tickets you get - again booking way in advance can save a lot. But travel costs so again one reason to condense your itinerary.

good for you! I think that's a reasonable plan in only 8 days, even then it's packed.

As far as budget, I personally don't usually spend $300 a day for hotels and meals in Spain (or almost anywhere else, actually, even more expensive countries). Spain is cheaper than Switzerland, France, etc. But this all depends what kind of spender you are, how much you eat, do you want to eat in expensive restaurants and stay in 4* hotels, etc.

I probably spend around 200 euro per day usually, but it depends on city and time of year, also. I don't usually spend more than 50 euro a day on eating. Seville can be expensive for hotels at some times, as can Barcelona. Thank goodness you are avoiding Santa Semana in Seville as that is probably the most expensive time of year (it ends April 1st).

Spain is full of hostals. Small relatively cheap hotels. Seville even has some cheaper 4 star hotels. Understand that in most of Europe the starts are a measure of the services/facilities provided. IIRC a 5 star is required to have a sewing kit. A 3 star tends to require staff uniforms. For most people things like this aren't really worth much. I've been in 2 stars that cost more then a 4 star and were nicer. Still it was rated two star. Hostals being small are all 1 star IIRC. But being small the lack of an elevator etc isn't an issue.

Then you have actual hostels. Not much cheaper then a hostal.
