(and travelingsimple - the estate is not near anything really -- perhaps you should first contact Ardverikie and see if one of their larger self catering cottages is available for your dates)

Now back to yen's trip. You may not understand the lay of the land in Scotland/rural England. You have picked places/things like Ullapool and Durness and Glen Affric and Urquhart, and a Dolphin Cruise for some reason(s). So you must want to see them. OK - but you can't see them all on the same day. To see some of the sights around Inverness, Glen Affric, the far north and the far NW, you'd want at least 3 full days (and 4 would be better) -- not one day.

Hi all,

Thank you very much for your kind advice. We're thinking of driving and stopping along the way. We'd hoped to see parts of the highlands, and the destinations that we have listed down are based on what are recommended in the various travel guides, but we're trying to customize them according to our itinerary. So, we appreciate if this forum can help us in planning for this trip! As for the destinations listed, we don't anything particularly in mind and the only thing we wanted to do is to catch sights of dolphins or even seals haha.

We'll try to arrange to pick up the car only when we leave Edinburgh, but as we have already scheduled to return the car in London, so we'll try to see if we can change that.

As for the itinerary, does it make more sense if we take out the Tongue and Durness part on the June 13? I'll discuss with my friends to take out Nottingham and spend more time in maybe Inverness/Ullapool/Fort William?

Thank you very much for your help again! Have a nice day!

Warm Regards,
Yen

In answer to your question about omitting Tongue and Durness, it would help, but I have to ask why Ullapool? You'll have a better road ( to/from Inverness), but you'll also be backtracking and unless you're going on to Lewis via the ferry or continuing along the coast road ( neither of which you have time for) Ullapool simply doesn't make much sense.

If seeing dolphins and seals are important, I suggest you head to Skye/Plockton as both have seal viewing trips. Or, better yet timewise go to Oban/Mull where you'll also find such trips ( avoiding Fort William). Personally I'd skip Inverness and spend the time nearer Loch Tay (one of my favorite lochs) travelling through Glen Coe to Oban/Mull/ Staffa. Plenty of opportunities for seal/dolphin viewing and plenty of Highland scenery.

It really would save you some time if you return your car to Edinburgh or even Glasgow if there's no extra fee and take the train to London.
