Planning a visit to Bristol

Hi all I was looking round for some information on the City of Bristol. I found this site http://www.hotels-uk-accommodation.co.uk/ and thus I had no problems booking a hotel.

I then found http://www.hotels-uk-accommodation.co.uk/avon/bristol/ and the pages off of here. Next came the offical site visitbristol.co.uk so I know what there is there.

Now what I am wondering is does anyone live there that knows the place? What out of all these wonderful items should I take time out to see?

I don't live there, but I drove through it 4 times last weekend.

Top of my list would be the SS Great Britain. But that's just me.

SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge are the "must sees" of Bristol.

The city itself is compact enough to just walk around. It's pretty decent.

I don't know much but took a day trip there from London last December and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the town was.
I loved the old docks in the city centre that have been renovated...and the university/church on a hill, a neat area...and the ships you can tour in the port, like the one mentioned above.
I just thought it was a very neat place - unique.

I have friends near Bristol so I've gone there several times in the last seven years. The dock area with all the new restaurants and attractions is nice. But my favorite area is Clifton with the Georgian House, the shops & restaurants on White Ladies Road and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Going down the hill, go to the Red House (Elizabethan), St. Mary's Redcliffe and the Cathedral. I like Bristol very much and its easy to drive or take a bus to Bath, Wells or other Somerset or Devon sites from there.

I'm sorry to blow the charade but this poster looked familiar...he comes back every three weeks as a new person putting links to his websites into his questions or comments. Check his very recent history.

Thanks for the replys ... I will try and see if I can get to see some of the other very nice sights that are mentioned here.

I will have felt like I missed out if I did not go on the SS GB

Thanks again folks

Don't misss the "clifton tap" pub. They specialise in cider - dry, sweet or mix. But be careful - it's very strong!

By the way, it is the 'Coronation Tap', not the 'Clifton Tap'. Good cider, young atmosphere and located in Clifton Village.

Also try the White Lion at the Avon Gorge Hotel - the terrace overlooks the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge. Great place for a pint especially in the summer.

For sights, in addition to the SS Great Britain & Clifton Suspension Bridge, St. Mary's Recliffe is a great old parish church to visit.

Sorry - you are right of course - my excuses are
1. I last went there 30 years ago when I was a student
2. I had been imbibing some of their wares [is that the right spelling?] at the time.
