Planning a Two-Week Switzerland Trip in Spring/Fall 2026 with a Toddler – Need Advice

Hello everyone,

We’re planning our first trip to Switzerland in either April (spring) or October (fall) 2026. We will also be travelling with our then 3-year-old toddler, so we're looking for a relaxed itinerary that lets us enjoy the stunning Swiss outdoors at a slower pace. We love nature and scenic views but will need to account for the limited mobility that comes with a lively toddler. I’ve drafted a first-draft kind-of itinerary, but I’m struggling to cut down on things and would appreciate any advice on what to keep, what to skip, or how to adjust it for the better.

Here's our rough plan so far (nothing is booked yet, so we're open to suggestions!):

Fly into Zurich:
  • 2 days in Lucerne: Planning a day trip to Mt. Rigi—any recommendations for toddler-friendly activities here?
  • 4 days in the Jungfrau Region: Considering Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, or Mürren as a base to explore the area (would love advice on the best place to stay for easy access and a relaxed vibe).
  • Golden Pass Express from Interlaken to Montreux.
  • 3 days in Montreux Region: Ideas include Château de Chillon, Gruyères, a cruise on Lake Geneva, and exploring the lakeside vineyards. Any other must-dos here?
  • 3 days in Zermatt: Planning to visit the Matterhorn Glacier Palace, Gornergrat, and Riffelsee—are these doable with a little one in tow?
  • Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz.
  • 3 days in the Engadin Valley (St. Moritz or surrounding area): Looking for peaceful hikes and scenic spots to wrap up our trip.
  • Fly back from Zurich?
We’re looking for nature-centric activities, scenic routes, and family-friendly experiences while keeping the pace slow and enjoyable. Any tips on how to balance sightseeing with a toddler or suggestions to tweak this itinerary for a more toddler-friendly experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I've been thinking more about our itinerary, and I realize I can only choose one of the following options: either spend 3 days in Montreux and take the Golden Pass Express or spend 3 days in the Engadin Valley and ride the Glacier Express. Given that the Glacier Express might be too long of a train ride for our toddler, I'm leaning toward Montreux. I would appreciate any input on this decision!

Evering thing you mention will be possible, but you are way too early with your planning.
Come again in 1 year or so.
Some general remarks:
There will be snow in the moutnains around Wengen/Muerren, Zermatt and St. Moritz until early June.
The Glacier Express ride from Zermatt to St. Moritz takes a whole day. May be not the best thing to do with a 3 year old kid.
