Planning a trip - what about October?
 

I am planning a trip to Europe for six of us. We will be unable to travel until October. Not sure if we will do Italy or France. We have 14 days. What will the weather be like in October?

my birthday is in the latter half of october and for the past 3 birthday trips it has partially rained - oh, and I went to Barcelona, Prague and Istanbul

I've been in France the past two Octobers, though only through about mid-month, and have been elsewhere in Europe in October several times. I think it's the most beautiful time of the year to travel in Europe.

We travel to Europe every Octber, always after the 15th and have had beautiful weather each time. Sometimes it cooler than others, but after a summer of Florda heat we relish it!

This year on October 13th we went swimming on the Adriatic/Abruzzo Coast of Italy, near Pescara, San Vito to be specific. It was a beautiful day in a week of beautiful days, sunny and 24/72degrees. Our kids ( I am a teacher) played beach volleyball while we lounged on the sand and got to know our fellow teachers. This is a ritual for the first month anniversary of shool ("whew, we made it through the first month") and most of those who had been there for many years claimed this weather as the norm for the area and the time of year.

October is not bad. The weather can be changeable, rainy and cold then warm and sunny. Just be prepared for both types.

Late May and early October are our favorite times to travel to Europe

I think October weather is pretty good in most places in Europe. I've been to Crete and Santorini in early or mid October, Provence in early October, Tuscany in mid October, the Dordogne in late September (or it might've been early October), and I was happy with my choice of that time of year in all those places.

October is one of our favorite times to travel. Italy in particular is great in early October. Generally, we have found it warm and sunny with a little rain. The quality of the light is so beautiful that time of year and the vineyards are in the midst of harvesting. I also like France in October so, if it isn't a particularly rainy year, it should be fine.

We always travel at the end of sept. to Octoberber. I don't know what part of Europe you're planning to visit. In Germany, Poland and the northerly countries, we've come across rain and cloudy days. went to Croatia last year and the temperatures were 70-80 o.
We've had snow in the Dolomites and Switzerland. We find it the best time to travel however, there are less tourists and the museums, castles etc are less crowded. We always prefer the shoulder season.

We were in Italy - Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Rome from the 1st to 15th this year. The weather was gorgeous 50s at night, 60s to low 70s during day with only one day of rain. Wasn't warm enough for the beach or swimming though.
