Planning a Trip to Romania in Spring

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking about visiting Romania in spring and I’m curious to hear some advice from people who have been there. From what I’ve seen in photos, it looks very beautiful that time of year, with green landscapes, blooming flowers, and pleasant weather for walking around cities and old towns.

I’m also really interested in trying the local kitchen. Romanian food looks very comforting and traditional. I’ve heard about dishes like sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls) and mămăligă, and they look delicious. If you have visited, are there any local foods or small restaurants you would recommend?

I’m also planning to visit a few museums and cultural places. The Village Museum in Bucharest and the ASTRA open-air museum look very interesting because they show traditional houses and village life. Are there other museums or historical places worth seeing?

Cities like Bucharest, Brașov, and Cluj-Napoca also look beautiful, especially in springtime. I imagine it must be a great season for walking through old streets and parks.

I’ve been looking a bit into travel options and information about a flight to Romania while planning the trip.

If you’ve traveled to Romania before, which cities, museums, or food experiences did you enjoy the most? I’d really appreciate any tips

So you're no longer looking for information on a budget trip to Rome? Or one for group travel?
What's next?

Yes, Romania is absolutely glorious in the spring! There are sufficient differences between the northern and mountainous portions and the southern and flatter portions for there to be differences in the timing of springtime and its flowers, so you might want to take a look at weatherspark.com for some excellent climate data.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meals while in Romania. Some of my favorite restaurants:

· In Iasi, Toujours and Trufanda

· In Cluj: Via

· In Timosoara: Vinto

· In Sibiu: Old Lisbon, Jules Bistro, and Pasaj

· In Brasov: Vino e Sapori and Ograda

· In Bucharest: Hanu’ lui Manuc and Bucatarasul

A great fan of outdoor museums, I wholeheartedly recommend ASTRA. I thought the Village Museum in Bucharest very similar; I preferred ASTRA.

There are tons of wonderful museums in the country! Just about every city has an ethnography museum; several have intriguing history museums; the larger cities have some stunning art collections. The Rough Guide provides excellent coverage of these cultural institutions.

I spent seven nights in Romania, traveling by car, as part of a longer trip that included Greece and Bulgaria. My thoughts are included here:

There is another village museum at Sibiu (Hermannstadt), a scenic medieval city.
The painted churches and monasteries around Suceava (Unesco sites) are real gems.
Don't forget the historic medieval city of Sighisoara (Schaessburg).
For nature and bird lovers, a visit of the Danube Delta is a must.

Cities like Timisoara (Temesvar) are closer to Budapest airport or Belgrade airport than to Bucharest airport.
