Planning a trip to Prague
 

I must confess that I dont know too much about this city other than the sceneries from movies..or from the Moldau,one of my favourites classical composition..

I still dont know my itinerary but without doubt Rome , Prague, Venice and Amsterdam.

After checking the airlines the best and easiest way would be Houston/AMS. I love Amsterdam and dont mind to see that beautiful city again..

From AMS I may flight or take the train to Prague.If I take the train where I can find the schedules..?

Do you know any decent hotel walking distance to the main actractions? Usually I rent an apartment when I travel to Europe..I may stay there for 4 days.

Also from Prague I may go to Venice.. should I fly or take the train? which budget airline goes there?

Any suggestions about Prague would be greatly Appreciated.

We stayed in Pension Deitzenhofer both times we went to Prague. It is in Mala Strana, the same side of the bridge as the castle. It's in a quiet location & we were able to walk everywhere. We walked uphill to the castle, over the bridge to Old Town Square, etc. I like staying in Mala Strana because it means that most likely you will walk across Charles Bridge every day. If you find it helpful, you can click on my name to read my trip report from 2009. I go into detail about sightseeing, restaurants, etc.

You should get some good guidebooks, as well, such as Fodors, Lonely Planet.

I'll recommend my usual - Hotel Kampa Garden www.kampagarden.cz. It is on Kampa Island which IMO is the ideal location for seeing Prague. Kampa Island is directly under the Charles Bridge - you access the bridge with stairs or a ramp. Once on the bridge turn right, you are in Old Town. Turn left, you are in New Town. The island itself is a lovely oasis in the middle of it all.

We stayed at the Hotel Tri Bubnu on U Radnice last summer and thought the location was terrific. Right around the corner from the old town square, within walking distance to lots of stuff, and within a couple blocks of metro and tram stops. The hotel itself was very good - historic, charming, good-sized rooms, comfortable, decent bathroom. The only downsides were lack of an elevator and breakfast was sort of non-descript.

for train schedule from Amsterdam to Prague - check Deutsche Bahn...and you can buy tickets on line 92 days in advance.
Cheap alternative is Easyjet. (AMS to PRG)

For train schedules, I've found the best resource is bahn.com, the English language version of the German system. However, once on the website, you can also choose another language, such as Italian.

For cheap flights, check out skyscanner.net

I'd say you're probably better off flying for those distances - Amsterdam to Prague and Prague to Venice. The train journeys are very long (18 hours, and 13 hours respectively) and involve at least two changes of trains, if not more.

If you get a cheap airfare on a budget airline, please remember only one piece of luggage is allowed free as carryon (a purse is one piece of luggage).

Thanks everybody...I will check everything..As I have said I dont know too much about Prague other than is a beautiful city.

easytraveler,thanks for your suggestion, but I am familiar with budget airlines requirements..I seldom take the trains for long transit when I travel in Europe, for me flying from a foreign city to another is the best and fastest ways to travel.

Last September the only time that I have taken the train were from Rome/Assisi and Assisi/Venice.

The trip from Venice/Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik/Paris were by air.
