We are planning a trip to Italy in June 2017. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teenagers We are flying in and out of Rome. I would like to do 4 nights in Rome and 5 nights Amalfi Coast. I have only been to Rome. I would love any suggestions of hotels/activities.

First, I'd recommend going straight to the Amalfi Coast and finishing back in Rome so you aren't rushed to get to the airport on your last day.

Others can add/subject to this, but I'd get to Naples first and hire a car to take you to the Amalfi Coast. If you are staying in Sorrento, you can take the circumvesuviana train there.

You could also take a train to Salerno and arrange a driver from there to your Amalfi Coast hotel instead of Naples.

Others can help but I'd think Pompeii, Ferry to Capri; and Rome Coliseum might interest your teens. Vatican Museums filled with interesting things.

Please google for hotels in your budget. IMO, if you are near bus stops in Rome, you can get around easily. There is also a good tram system. I can't speak to the metro. I liked the area around

Driving on the Amalfi Coast can be time-consuming. Check into ferry schedules instead!

No reason to round trip via Rome. Open jaw: Into Rome and home from Naples, which we did on our trip to italy (click my name to read the trip report), or the reverse into Naples and home from Rome.

Hotels...can't recommend without knowing your budget, in euros.

Activities....there are thousands. Depends on your interests. Pick up a few guidebooks, browse the internet sites of the places you want to visit. What I would like to do might be totally different from what would interest you, so no point going there.

We flew in and out of Rome for our AC trip. For some reason, Naples added two connections for us out of Atlanta. We took a car service to/from ather than deal with trains after the flight from the States.

You will need to provide your budget for hotels to get the best suggestions for your trip. We spent 6 nights in Positano and 3 in Conca dei Marini before our final night in Rome.

We loved our hotels for the whole trip. We stayed at Albergo del Senato in Rome...great location right by the Pantheon. Don't miss the pizza Bianca at Forno in Campo dei Fiori.

If your family is up for a good workout, the steps to Nocelle (Positano) will reward you with beautiful views and you can hike the Path of the Gods from Nocelle to Bomerano.
