Planning a trip to Euripe
 

Need help please -
My sister and I are planning a trip at the end of June (I am just now buying tickets) is there a place to find cheap tickets? Also our itineray will be fly into heathrown/gatwick to paris to rome - is this a good idea? We will buy a eurorail pass for all traveling purposes.

to see whether flying London - Paris - Rome - London might not be cheaper than taking the train.

Or try to get an open jaw flight: into Heathrow or Gatwick and out of Fiumicino (Rome).

And also go to

enter your itinerary and click on "Only if it saves me money". A Eurail pass may be more expensive than point-to-point tickets, if you do take the train instead of flying.

You've left this a bit late...

Heathrow and Gatwick are not particularly close together so pay attention to arrival/departure airports when booking flights in/out of London.

A train pass may or may not be the more economical way to go depending on how many days of travel you plan, which countries, etc.

Though many Fodorites will say a pass may not be best, and to fly, take your time and hop the train and go via Switzerland, stop off at the Interlaken/Grindelwald area - the essence of the Alps with many cheap lodgings - bout half way to italy just off main rail route. Eurail Select Pass where you can chose three countries (France, Italy and Switzerland for example) would be what to look at. For cheap eurostar tickets London-Paris be sure to book in advance - with pass you can get a $75 pass fare that is the cheapest London-Paris ticket for over 25 age ($45 youthfare possible Mon-Thu between 11am and 3pm) but reserve these in advance as may not be available on the spot and you may pay much more. If you are planning on going this June, you will have to take whatever is available.

Are you planning on visiting London, Paris and Rome?

If so, your Best route is to fly into London and out of Rome.

Look for tickets at http://airtravelcenter.com/onetrav.htm

You might be able to save money by flying RT to London and taking European budget airlines to Rome/Paris/back to London. See www.whichbudget.com

It is unlikely that a railpass will save you money. Enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com and clck "only if it will save money".

Where are you coming from? If you are near a major international airport that will help you find less expensive tickets. But because your trip is just a few weeks away, the regular cheapest seats on regular airlines may well be sold out.
