Plane fares to Venice?
I am on a daily hunt for "fair" airfare from Washington, DC to Venice in late September (leaving and returning mid-week). I'm hoping for $600/ticket. Can anyone advise if that is realistic?

Right now checking mobissimo.com the cheapest fare I see is $778 on Air France from Dulles through CDG. You should look at the of option of DC/JFK/VCE (Delta flies non-stop) DC/London/Venice. BMI flies from Heathrow to Venice for as little as 40-50e each way.
You should sign up for farewatcher alerts with travelocity and also with any carriers you think you would use. BA often runs sales.

$800 range directly through Air France or USAirways; $550+ for IAD to London where you could use a budget carrier like EasyJet..and these were all searches for mid-week September (14th and 21/22).
I think you may have to revise your budget upward unless you want to change somewhere like London to a budget carrier.

On a newsletter of another publisher, there is mention of www.europeasap.com - - and this may indeed be a pretty good deal, if you can get it to fitr your desired dates (well, maybe/maybe not ideal for Venice - - but perhaps for others traveling to Northern Italy).
Oddly enough, I wasn't really looking for any such deals - - just clicked on their headline "Phi Slamma Amsterdamma" - - to see what it meant (if this is a pun, I don't really get it). I had trouble finding the "Amsterdam only" deals that they mentioned, and that's when I stumbled on to the alternatives.
They are offering - - http://www.europeasap.com/customizeT...velPackage=151 - - a fly/drive deal for two to Nice at $519 to $599 (specifically 519 NYC, 539 WAS, 579 ATL, 599 CHI are the three that I checked), taxes and "fees" excluded. The car is worth at least $100 per person (if it is of use to you - - that's why I said "maybe not" for Venice).
If you were hoping for $600/ticket AFTER taxes, that's going to take a pretty aggressive bargain hunt. Ths may or may not work for you.
They have other deals that are quite a bit better than average (as I see it) to Paris, Glasgow, Dublin, Shannon and Zurich - - and Amsterdam (I eventually found it) for September-October. The Ireland deals come with B&B vouchers. But who knows what dates are actually available?

Bringing your question back up "to the top" lest you never find it... and since it is your first time ever here - - how do I know that? Click on your own name - - a valuable tip that Fodors fails to tell you when they send you that initial e-mail confirming your registration.
Best wishes,
Rex
