plan about 8 days croatia (also monstrar?)
Considering a trip to croatia possibly late september or sometime in october. We like medieval things: thinking two days dubrovnik, kucola island, maybe day trip to monstrar. Split (and trogir) undecided re hvar, saravejo. Suggestions regarding what to eleminate etc.
|
I think Sarajevo is too much to add on to Croatia but you can visit Mostar (not Monstrar) in a day trip or overnight from Dubrovnik.

thinking of possibly dubrovnik, kocula, mostar, saravejo after reading posts on this web site. Unclear good time efficient options from dubrovnik-kocula. There is a ferry until Sept 29 sounds best thing? Maybe travel dubrovnik-kocula-mostar-saravejo-dubrovnik? Or arrive in one, fly out the other. In one or two legs- do a car sevice? I dont do stick shift. Maybe too muchthe hills, winding roads for my driving abilities.

You will definitely find very high and very winding roads on drives to Mostar and Sarajevo. The drive through some of Bosnia is bleak, which goes along with the history. Be aware of pickpockets in Mostar. One of our group had a wallet taken from his pocket, and one caught a hand in his pocket on the old bridge.

how to get efficiently from saravejo to mostar and mostar to dubvonik?
|
I suggest cut out Sarajevo.
Visit Split/Trogir, Hvar, Korcula, Dubrovnik (also go to Ston from here), Kotor Montenegro (accesible from Dubrovnik). Could also go North to Pula, Rovinj,Zadar Plenty intercity buses along coast if you don't want to drive. |
There is basically one route to take Sarajevo to Mostar and two options Mostar to Dubrovnik. If you look at my trip report from last year and julia_t's reports on her trips to Sarajevo you will get more detail. The drive we took Mostar to Dubrovnik is scenic but there are land mines on the way so you really don't want to stop by the side of the road at all.
But I think adding Sarajevo in to the Croatia trip is very ambitious especially if (as it appears) you are planning to drive back to the coast from Sarajevo. |
great advise possibly just croatia and mostar. some people say split not that special. Do want to spend time in dubrovnik but would love to do no more than eight days new york to new york
|
With only 8 days, I think skipping Sarajevo makes sense. That would give you time for Dubrovnik, Mostar, Kurcula, and - depending on your preferred pace of travel and what you want to see - maybe Split and/or Trogir. People seem to have divergent views of Split - I'm one of those who loved it. If you don't like it, Trogir is very near and is easy to reach. You might want to check into flying into Dubrovnik and out of Split or vice versa.
