Places to visit from Zurich

Hello, I have 4 days in Zurich and will be taking take day trips from there using my Swiss travel pass. We are a group of 5. The plan is
Day 1: Mount Rigi and Lucerne
Day 2: Mount Pilatus or Titlis or Jungfraujoch
Day 3: Rhine Watrefalls and Zurich city tour
Day 4: Visit to Bern city.

My question: Does this sound OK?
In the past I have travelled to Titlis and Jungfraujoch and wondering if I should visit Mount Pilatus or stick to Titlis or Jungfraujoch. Never been there. Your views will be greatly appreciated.

IMO, it depends on what you want to see and experience! I wanted more time in most of these areas than you are allotting; many people find day trips to them quite satisfying.

Much as I love Zurich, it would not be the place I would choose from which to make these particular day trips. It is even more expensive than many other locations in Switzerland, and not located centrally for the places you hope to visit. Lucerne would, I think, be a more central base. I could be wrong...

Train connections from Zurich are excellent (most trains run about every 30 min from 5am until midnight). So you can go to almost every place in Switzerland.

If you are travelling from Zurich forget Jungfraujoch it's too far away, the weather may change between you buying the very expensive tickets and getting to Interlaken, let alone all the way to Jungfraujoch. I would stick to Rigi and Pilatus if you want another choice in that area there is the Stanserhorn, near to the town of Stans just outside Lucerne.

I agree with tipsygus: unless the entirety of Switzerland is in a prolonged hot and dry weather pattern, it would be a pretty big gamble to do a daytrip to Jungfraujoch from Zurich. Clouds tend to build up during daytime heating, so odds for decent visibility (a prerequisite for a worthwhile trip to Jungfrajoch, since the views are key to the trip) are better in the morning than in the afternoon, but you can't make an early morning trip up to Jungfraujoch if you are departing from Zurich. If Zurich is your base, some combination of Rigi, Pilatus, and Titlis should suffice.

Plus Jungfraujoch Railway is only 25% off with Swiss Pass above Grindelwald or Wengen - so will cost you with pass maybe $100 + to do it - I would base too in Lucerne.

If your friends have never seen the Jungfrau Region then I would say to go there for them even if not doing the Jungfrau Railway -just to see that whole scene from say Grindelwald is awesome -for lots on Swiss trains check www.sbb.ch - www.ricksteves.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

Pilatus is far different from Titlis or Jungfrau - kind of a solitary Alp- thrilling train ride up and great views but IME summit not unusually obscured in clouds - go on the first clear day.

And strongly consider basing in Lucerne IMO- friends will love it much more than Zurich -a large city that is just not as romantic as lovely Lucerne -to me one of Europe's prettiest cities.
