Places to visit from London

I have two free days in London, after my tour finishes.

I am thinking of doing

day 1: Windsor & Hampton court

day 2: Cambridge & Constable Country

(What do you think?? The first option for me is definitely a must, but the 2nd day one I'm not sure. Should I instead just spend a day in the cotswolds......or do cambridge (Which is better?)

I would have already visited oxford.....so not sure if visiting the university and surrounding areas would be similar to the one in cambridge

Are you driving? By public transportation it looks like it will take about 2 hrs to get from Windsor to Hampton Court Palace. Driving looks to take about 30 mins.

Cambridge is nice. What about a day trip to Bath? Bath is about 1.5 hrs via train and is a beautiful town.

It seems you are taking tours -- I would not do the Windsor/Hampton Court Palace one. They do not give you enough time at either site.

If you've done Oxford by then I'd skip Cambridge. Not because it isn't very nice - but because it is very similar (down to the rivers/punts) .

If it was me Id do Windsor one day - The castle, Eton, and the town. Plan on most of the day by the time you get back to London but still time to do something in the late afternoon or early evening.

The other day do Hampton Court Palace and either take a boat back into London or take the train back and do something else in the late afternoon. The boat takes MUCH longer and you should wait to see what the weather is.

Thanks for that....knew they were going to be a bit similar.

My tour takes me to oxford, so would spending an entire day at the cotswolds be worthwhile?....will the scenery/houses/surrounds be similar?

Or.....should I spend the day in lacock instead?

I suggested what I'm recommending. One day at Windsor and one day at HCP.

Lacock is not isn't really a 'day's worth' destination. There is the Abbey, the photography museum and some pretty/chocolate box cottages you can look at from the exterior.

The logistics for a day in the Cotswolds aren't that simple. You'd have to travel to Moreton-in-Marsh by train and then local buses (which aren't really geared to tourists' schedules) to get anywhere else.

If your tour hits Oxford it likely also drives through a bit of the Cotswolds.

Oxford just has far more to do in it than Cambridge

Take care about the marketing term "Constable Country" the poor guy was painting ducks in Yorkshire and I doubt that is included

Cool! Thanks, I've decided to change plans, so that we get more free time in London to travel around to other parts of Britain
