Richtravels: thanks for the recommendation of Warrens Guest House - I stayed there last week and was 100% pleased - nice big room, great location, terrific hosts, good price (30 GBP per person). I absolutely would go back, and probablay will - I loved Yorkshire.

Rkkwan mentioned the National Rail Museum just alongside York railway station.

It has always been a fabulous way to spend half a day even when you had to pay to gain entry. Now that it is free, it's even better - thoroughly recommended.

Not far from York is Harrogate. Beautiful flowers, gardens and tea-rooms.
