Places to stay in Tuscany

We are traveling to several parts of Italy for a period of 14 days. I'm looking for a nice place to stay in Tuscany for 3 nights. Any pointers?

Which part of Tuscany are you visiting for 3 nights? What time of year? Will you have a car? What size town do you want to be in, or would you rather be at a farm or winery with a restaurant? What is the most you are willing to pay?

Bob thank you thank you...

To answer questions asked by others. Trip June 2018 price range max 350 but I say that not knowing if for Italy if I can get something nice at that rate since I've never been there. I'm flexible on location as we are exploring the area. Love wineries. Farm life maybe too far as we are pure city people.

Your budget is actually quite high for the wine-growing areas of Tuscany, so you should have no trouble finding something you like. Of course if you want to spend more you can get considerable luxury, but in some ways it will lessen your experience of the historic wine-growing areas, rather than improve it.

Tuscany is one of the largest regions of Italy, and has several major wine areas, the two most famous and popular with tourists being the Chianti wine area and the areas near Montalcino (south of Siena) that produce several famous red wines.

The only true city in Tuscany is Florence, but if you prefer a bit of city buzz and want to tour the Chianti wine country, then Arezzo might suit you. While Siena is historically a city, few people would call it that. Tourists see it as a large hilltown. It is next to impossible to stay in Florence and use it as hub for visiting the wine country. Some people stay in Siena, on the outskirts so they have a place to park their car, and tour the Brunello wine country from there. But most people stay in one of the antique Chianti towns or one of the larger antique towns south of Siena (Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza).

Driving in Tuscany is slow-going on twisting rural roads, so it is simpler to chose one wine area to explore rather than try to see two. Some people insist the val d'Orcia south of Siena has the most beautiful landscape. Others like le Crete Sinese, and still others like the landscape of the Chianti. If you have specific wineries you want to visit, don't stay too far away from them (and you will probably need an appointment or to go with a professional tour guide to do tastings & tour the winery.)

We stayed at Fonte Bertusi, listed above, and absolutely loved it. Large Tuscan villa divided into individual apartments with kitchen. Huge delicious breakfasts prepared by the wonderful hosts. We can't wait to return.

I think you might like Relais San Bruno Montepulciano (http://www.sanbrunorelais.com/). It's actually just outside Montepulciano. You look up from the grounds and see the town and the church of San Biagio. The owner, Alberto Pavoncell, is wonderful and will help you make the most of your stay. He made some excellent recommendations for us. We loved it there. I really hated to leave.

Forgot to mention we had friends stay at La Bandita (http://www.la-bandita.com/countryhouse/) and loved it.

Agriturismo il Rigo (www.agriturismoilrigo.com/_en/home.html) we did not stay here but heard it was very good.
