Places to stay in Rome?
 

Any suggestions for 2 nights accommodation in Rome? Must be nice, clean, but expect to spend very little time in room, location is key. Preferably something under 150E.

Have you researched the reviews on Tripadvisor.com or looked at Venere.com?

Has anyone rented from Italy Perfect? I like the fact that the agency is located in the US.

I rented from Sleep in Italy (who are in Italy) and from Rentvillas located here in the US - I am torn on which is better. Real Rome - with Tim was wonderful - just did not have the right accomadations for us.
We leave tomorrow (YIPPEEE) and I will let you know when I get back... I know that there are advantages to having someone *in country imo - but I also know it was nice to be able to communicate clearly and on the same time zone (with the company here in CA). Why do you like an agency here in the US?

I LOVED the Hotel Modigliani, not far from the Spanish Steps but on a quiet side street. But also loved staying i Trastevere and taking the trolley into central Rome.

Lisa Bryne was easy to work with and the apartment far exceded our expectations. There were no glitches.

I'm not sure if you are looking for a particular area, but the River Palace in Rome has rates around this and it is a 4 star... it isn't right in the historic district, but has received good reviews. I will let you know what we think of it after next eek!

Yes, the apartment, La Giulia, looks nice! We will be disembarking from a cruise and will have heavy luggage. My only concern is hauling it up the spiral staircase. I'm glad to hear that Lisa was easy to work with..that is important to me. Please advise. Thanks

I'm also planning a trip to rome now, I'm currently checking out venere.com. Are the 3 star hotels a good choice for Rome?, I know like in BKK, a three start will get you really decent place to stay, but this will be my first trip to Italy so I'm not sure?

Hi Cally - I just got back from a trip to Rome with my father and husband. We felt it would be more economical to rent an apartment, also because we were going to spend so little time in the room. We rented through Sleepinitaly.com and they were fantastic. You can check reviews for individual apartments on Slowtrav.com. I'm getting to the stage in life where things like mini-bars, breakfasts, concierges, etc don't interest me and I would prefer to spend the money on food and cultural activities. We literally slept in the apartment and were out the whole time - we never even bothered to do any cooking. There was a lovely little cafe across the street where we had breakfast/coffee and did fab people watching!

We had two 21 carry-on bags and it wasn't that bad getting them up. It is a great apartment and I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker unless there is some serious physical barrier that would make it very difficult to get up and down the stairs.

Here are a few links I gathered up that may help you, than maybe someone from here may have stayed there and can give you more input. I ususally look for about the same price range and in the 3 star area.

Try Al Colonnato San Pietro-reviews are readily found-I stayed there for 7 nights last October. It is directly across from the south colonnade of St.Peter's, cost is low, breakfast is excellent, very clean & numerous bus stops within 1 block. Good luck

My daughter and I jsut returned from a trip that included 4 days in Rome and we stayed at the Locanda Senatorum, between Piazza Navona and the Parthenon-what a great place and the location was perfect, we walked everywhere-check it out, Have a great trip.

Loved your report...In regard to the studio apartment, in early April, did you find that you missed having air conditioning...since I understand that the apartment is not air conditioned?

We didn't need a/c as it didn't get that warm in April. The apartment stayed very comfortable.

Be aware that the bathroom is VERY small. It is nicely done, but it is a one person at a time affair.

The location can't be beat.

if you are looking for cheap and good location, and not planning on spending a lot of time in your room, check out Hotel Panda. The rooms are small but the bathrooms are clean - right by the Spanish Steps on a cute little street.
