We plan to be in Alba, Italy, in September 2014 and need suggestions on place to stay for 3 to 4 nights.

We prefer a place either in the village of Alba or a place in the country within 2 km of Alba. Price range $100 to $120 per night for double room with bath. We will have a car.

Bob beat me to it. If you have a car, Villa Favorita is lovely. A short distance outside Alba, you can see Alba from their gardens.

We stayed at the Albergo San Lorenzo, http://www.albergo-sanlorenzo.it, behind the cathedral. In 2010, the rate was 100E double with breakfast, 85E without. Although its website claims timeless elegance and decor, we didn't notice it. Our very basic room was clean, the bathroom large, the bed reasonably comfortable. There was no view and with the window open there was a lot of road noise.
