Place to store luggage in Zurich?

We are flying into Zurich in the early morning and then traveling to Milan in the afternoon. Does anyone know where we can store our luggage while we walk around? How about advice to get from Zurich to Milan?
Thanks.

The Zurich train station has locker rentals. Very user-friendly.

www.sbb.ch/en should tell you how to get to Milan. The route we took was a combination of trains and post bus through the very scenic Engandine Alps. Zurich-St. Moritz-Chiavenna-Milan was our basic route.

From Zurich to Milan, I think it was six hours or so (actually, we were going in the opposite direction). But our driver in Chiavenna overslept, and we wandered around a bit in St. Moritz, so it's hard to say.

Looking at the swiss train site, it looks like the most direct route for you would be on the other side of Lake Como, through Lugano and the St. Gotthard Pass. It says four hours for that route. I'd be interested in knowing if it's as scenic as the one I took.

Station to station the trip is just over 4 hours. Go to rail.ch or www.cisalpino.ch, for schedules, I believe the Cisalpsino site also gives fares. The train runs several times a day from Zurich with no changes, although some trains require a change in Arth-Goldau, a city south of Zurich. The ride is quite pretty, you will pass Lake Como and go through some mountain areas.

It is NOT necessary to take the combination of bus and train described above, and that route is much longer; albeit parts of that route are very beautiful and much prettier than the faster main route. However, you are unclear about how much time you have.

For luggage storage in Zurich, there are lockers at the Zurich main train station (Hautbahnhof) and a manned luggage room. If you have very large pieces, you will need to use the manned luggage room as they won’t fit in the lockers, you also need exact change for the lockers. The luggage lockers are in the first basement area, look for a blue sign with a white suitcase and a key. The manned luggage room is on the main ground level, look for a blue sign with a white suitcase. In either case, the cost is about US$3 per piece per day. There are also showers in the basement area where you can take a shower and change clothes from your overnight flight for a very reasonable fee, it’s called “McClean” or something similar.
