place to stop and eat in Glen Coe?
I'll be driving to Oban from Edinburgh and would like to detour through Glen Coe. Since I'll be there in late afternoon, I'd like to know if there is a nice pub (or cafe) to stop at for a quick bite while there...Our first thought was stopping in Callander for food, but have been swayed by warnings of it being crowded and touristy and guide books don't seem to recommend much in the ay of quick bites.
thanks |
Glen Coe itself is a bit...well.... empty!
But you could stop at the Green Welly Shop at Tyndrum. or you could go and find the Clachaig Inn- the climbers' pub- and enjoy the crack. |
10 mins after Glencoe - after Ballachullich - you are off the tourist trail(it heads north).I assume you are going to head west then turn south down the coast - a beautiful road.(is this where castle Stalker from Python is?I get mixed up). There are 2 quiet hotels at Duror & some places on the road before you get to Connel bridge, where you hit tourist traffic again. There is also a sealife centre, pony trekking & boats for hire along this quieter road.

Definitely the Clachaig - I make a point of stopping there every time I travel through Glencoe. A wood burning stove, several real ales, good selection of single malts, really tasty, filling food in the bar or for more £ in the dining room.
It is close to the visitors center if you walk - but about 4 miles by car since you must drive down through the village. |
Thanks for the advice- I knew you'd have the answer. I just found one of my guidebooks mentions the Clachaig.
It is Castle Stalker on the road south. I didn't even realize that. I imagine I'll have a lovely drive through the area. thanks for your help. |
After Glen Coe you get to Glen Coe village which has a lovley craft shop. Can't remember what it's called but it's something like the Glen Coe Craft Shop! Does very, very good food and ism't expensive.
