place to stay in or near the 17th

Our son is living in Paris for a year, apt in the 17th arrondisment. This is a residental neighborhood. Which areas or hotels are nearby or close via metro? (he took all my maps!)

Pat,

If you look at the French yellow pages you can insert your son's address and then Paris 17.
http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en

This will show you a map or the business at that site. Then you just enter the street and see what businesses are listed there with a map option. You can also enter hotel on the business line and enter Paris 17 in the city line. Just keep track of your son's apartment.

Some of the 17th (and other residential neighborhoods) are outside of the tourist guide maps, but you should be able to find one or two!

As with most arrondisements, the 17th is huge, you really have to be more specific. There are tons of hotels in the 17th, and many are quite reasonable in cost. YOu can easily buy a map at a bookstore, if you want one (eg, Paris Streetwise).

Thank you. Actually, there is no bookstore withing 50 miles of where I live and wanted to get working on it now. I will order some from Amazon. In the meantine, so many people have great experiences, so was looking for some knowledgeable advice.

Pat,
If you will tell us the street that your son is on, we could suggest some hotels close by.

Minimn is right. The 17th is a large district. If you name the street your son will be located that will allow more people to assist you.

Also your budget.

Rue Jouffroy d'Abbans. that is the correct street.

francophile03 Sep 11th, 2005 04:47 PM

The street appears to be closeby Avenue de Wagram which is near Place de Etoile. The Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe are nearby I believe.

The Pavillon Monceau Hotel is on rue Jouffroy d"Abbans..
Paris Attitudes also rents an apt on the same street.
