Place to stay in Milan for 1 night under $125?

My husband and I are stopping in Milan for night after a few days in Zermatt and on our way to Cinque Terre. We wanted to break up the long train ride between Zermatt and C.T. so decided to stay in Milan. We will probably arrive in Milan around mid-afternoon and depart the next evening. We want to be close to a train station. We would really like to stay under $100-125 since it's just one night.

Any ideas? Thanks!

You need to tell us when. The rates changes a lot depending on it. Would be difficult if your stay falls on one of the many fair dates.

Coming from Zermatt you will be taking the train which will probably stop at Stresa on Lake Maggiore. It is much more likely that you will find a very pleasant hotel there for your budget. It does mean that you will have to take a train to Milan the next day before going on to CT but I am sure that it will be worth the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of this lake.

I'm no expert and have only passed thru the Milan train station once... but I like the idea of staying somewhere else (small town, more scenic) along the train route instead. I think you will likely find a much more pleasant experience and more bang for your hotel buck, if you stay somewhere else NOT around the train station area of Milan.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Bagliori last September. I am pretty sure it was about 90Euro a night. It was clean, with a nice sized bathroom. A little balcony. The room came with a continental breakfast. It was a comfortable walk with luggage from the train station. It was also easy to get to the the Milan Duomo, taking the subway. They also had a small garden you can sit in. We loved Milan and wished we had more than two days there. We would stay at the Bagliori again.

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel Andreola, which is quite near the train station. The cost was 110 euros for the room and breakfast, but this was in 2002, so it's probably somewhat higher by now.

The neighborhood wasn't the best, and the outside of the hotel didn't look promising, but it was quite nice inside.

We are going in May and will be staying on a Friday night. We do want to stay in Milan. We don't want to spend extra travel time getting to Milan and dealing with storing luggage etc... Thanks for the suggestions on hotels near train stations in Milan. I will look at those now.

The hotel Peg suggested looks nice (I checked the website) but the prices are way higher than your budget (it said "rooms starting at $150" but then the actually dates I checked were all in the 250-350+ range).
