Pizza night in a Provencal village
 

One of our favorite memories of recent trips to Provence is "pizza night" in the tiny village of Villedieu. The village square, which is covered by the branches of huge plane trees in which little white lights are strung, is filled with mostly locals who have come to order pizza from the truck (Pizza Mumu) parked beside the little cafe. The staff from the cafe stay busy taking orders for drinks and hustling back and forth from the cafe to the square.

In September we will be staying in Ansouis and wonder if there's a "pizza night" in a nearby village.

Hope you're kidding Ira. It is a time-honored tradition in France, similar to the rotisserie chicken trucks that come to markets. A lot of these pizza trucks have wood-fired ovens and turn out excellent pizzas.

Oh, thank you, Vedette! I was feeling like a "newbie" who hadn't done her homework. The pizzas are wonderful, prepared in the specially equipped "truck". Perhaps I should have used the term "wagon" to evoke a more Provencal image.

But, does anyone know if any villages in the Luberon have "pizza nights"?

I think the charming town of St. Dominoe's has them on Friday nights. But it's a little different. You stay in your home and if the truck doesn't deliver your pizza quick enough it's free.
