Pisa to Florence logistics

We land in Pisa at noon. Is it possible to zip into town, see the leaning tower and then take the train to Florence later that day? I'm travelling with two children and I think I know the answer to my question, but am hoping that someone will have some tips on a way to do this in a rational way. Thanks

Hi dac,

All of the trains from Pisa Airport stop at Pisa Centrale.

There is a bus to the Tower.

I think that there is a left luggage office at Pisa Centrale.

You will have to buy one ticket to Pisa and a second ticket to Florence.

Thanks Ira. How much time do you think I should allow for this? (Before I get on the train to Florence?)

It's been three years, but as I recall, you don't need more than an hour at the Leaning Tower. Depending on the ages of your children, you probably won't be able to take them up on it anyway. My youngest was 6, and was too young. Look it up somewhere, but I'm thinking you have to be 8 or 9. If the kids are older, and want to climb the tower, then allow for more time (someone else will have to tell you how much). But basically, you just want to go and take pictures, and look at the little tourist booths (which my kids loved--lots of bright plastic tacky cheap stuff).

I think that it's well worth whatever hassle you have to put up with. I can't tell you how times we've seen pictures of the Leaning Tower in the last three years, and have been able to say, "Remember when..."

I think Cindy has it right.

I think that it's about a 0:30 hr walk from the train station if you want to see a bit of the town.

Thanks for your help. Looks like we will be able to do it!

If you are really pressed for time and only want to see the tower and perhaps the other buildings you can easily get a taxi to the "Field of Miracles" and it will be faster, obviously, and more expensive, than the busses....

Trains run from Pisa Centrale to Florence almost hourly all day long and the trip only takes about an hour between these two cities.
