Pisa hotels
Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels in Pisa. We will be there one day and night before we fly out the next day.
Any suggestions for restaurants?
Thanks
Mary

I recommend that you do not spend your last night in Italy in Pisa! Two better choices are: Il Bottacio di Montognoso -- about 30km from the Pisa airport; or Locanda l'Elise in Lucca only 18km from the airport. Both are Relais & Chateaux hotels. Beautiful and the food is wonderful.

What about Lucca?? Is there transportation to the airport?? WHat about the hotel Ilaria or the VIlla Principessa??
Thanks
mary

I hear the Villa Principessa is very nice, but I have not heard of the Ilaria.

Once you have made a hotel reservation, you can fax the concierge to arrange transportation to the airport for you. The local people have all the answers.

We spent a night in Pisa and LOVED it. It was the most untouristy place we saw in all of Italy --that is, once you got away from the tower and duomo. We stayed at the Victoria (a faded but grand old hotel on the river). Because we speak no Italian, the owner of the hotel called a restaurant and set us up with the owner there, who spoke very little English. We were the only Americans there, and it was one of the finest and least expensive meals we have ever had in Italy. Same with the cafe where we had afternoon coffee and pastries. If you want to experience a true working and living city in Italy and get away from the tourists, stay in Pisa for a night, away from the tower. Don't get me wrong, I also loved staying in Lucca, but Pisa was unique.
