Pisa Centrale left luggage service open on Christmas Day?
 

I am visiting Pisa on Christmas Day from Florence, and I'm trying to decide between leaving my luggage in Firenze SMN or in Pisa Centrale. We will be traveling to Venice later that day so I don't want to leave our luggage at the apartment and have to walk back and forth from Firenze SMN to the apartment to pick it up, so I am thinking of leaving the luggage either at Firenze SMN left luggage and pick them up on the way to Venice (we have to go through Firenze SMN anyway from Pisa) or just take the luggage to Pisa with us and leave it at the left luggage there.

My concern with the Firenze SMN left luggage is that there may be long lines from what I've read online. I am not even sure if either (Firenze SMN or Pisa Centrale) left luggage services would be open on Christmas Day.

Thoughts anyone?

I'm wondering if your landlord in Firenze would be willing to confirm this, but there is no indication from the Trenitalia website that either storage room is closed on Christmas Day and, generally speaking, holidays do not affect train operations in Italy (in the sense that there are no reduced holiday schedules, etc). So I would presume them to be open, but obviously if you can find someone who knows for sure that would be best. Maybe you could also ask on the Tripadvisor message forum if no one here can give you reassurance.

Just don't know which station might have the longer lines. Pisa a popular destination. Whichever station you use, I would ask how long to allow for retrieval later in the day.

Something else you might want to check if you haven't already is how much of the complex at Campo dei Miracoli is open on Christmas Day. Even if you don't want to climb the tower, the cathedral interior and bapistery are marvelous. Overall, unless you have already booked museum visits for Firenze on the other days, you mght find it simpler to re-work your sightseeing schedule to move Pisa to a different day and spend Christmas itself in Florence, visiting what will be open there.

(Regarding the church and bapistery in Pisa, they might be open but having religious services for some hours during the day which would limit your ability to actually tour them as a visitor, although some would enjoy observing the service, especially if it includes music. But you might want to know in advance what to expect.)

given the choice, I would not hump my luggage all the way to Pisa and back, rather than leave it in the left luggage at SMN and i think that leaving it in the apartment would be preferable.

However, I agree with sandralist that a better plan would be to do the trip to Pisa on another day.

they are open all year including Christmas Day.

Agree with what has been said above.

We attended Christmas mass in Pisa 2 xmas ago and they were very rigid about letting tourists not enter unless they were going to mass and very nasty about "no photos" at any time inside the church (they always have the sign posted but usually ignore that everyone--and I mean everyone-- is taking photos right and left)Not on Xmas. That being said, the Duomo is one of my favorites in Italy and is beautifully decorated for the season. Don't miss it if you can help it during your visit to Pisa.

Florence says daily, but I'm not sure Christmas day would be such a busy time for luggage storage.

I don't think I would drag my luggage all the way to Pisa since you will have to change trains in Florence anyway.
