Piraeus & Rafina Port

I would like to know if it makes sense to consider going to and from the the Cyclades out of Athens from the Rafina Port. The ferry schedules seem better from Rafina than Piraeus. However, I'm not sure of the distance from Athens to Rafina Port and what the cost would be by taxi. If anyone can give me any information on this, it would be a big help. Thanks!

Rich

Rafina is about 60km from Athens. I found this out from www.greecetravel.com.

PS: The taxi ride from Piraeus to Athens (according to the woman at the hotel I booked) is about 5.000GDR (about $13) and takes about 30 minutes. So, I can imagine the cost of a taxi from Rafina will be very expensive.

I would like to know of a hotel in Pireaus and how far it is from the Athens airport. We will need to stay in Pireaus two days prior to taking a cruise.

Rich

If you want to travel to the islands of Andros, Tinos, or Mykonos, then you should defenately take the ship from Rafina, because it is much closer to those islands.
Rafina is also an "easier" port. There isn't the chaos of Piraeus.
There is no need to take a taxi to go to Rafina. Every half an hour there is bus connection from Athens to Rafina. The bus stop is at Mavromateon Street, near the Victoria Metro station. Look at your Athens map: Mavromateon Street defines the west side of the large "Pedion Areos" park. It is really easy to find it!
The buses have orange colour. You get in the bus, and just wait for the assistant to come to you, and pay him cash a really cheap fare.
The trip last around 1 hour, or 1 hour and a half, depending on the traffic. This is the best way to go to Rafina.

The bus route to and from Rafina/Athens sounds like a good idea that can save me a significant amount of money. However, will my wife and I be able to load several pieces of luggage on these buses? Please advise. Thanks!
