Pienza to Orvieto - stop at Civita di Bagnoregio
We will be leaving Pienza on a Sunday with our car rental, heading to Orvieto. We would like to see Civita di Bagnoregio on our way. We will be dropping off our car rental ( via dropbox) and staying at Hotel Duomo overnight before going to Rome.
If we want to drop off car before 4:30 pm - how lmuch time should we allow for travel and visiting Civita ? Is there a preferred travel route ?
Is the funicular open on Sundays or how would we get from car rental to hotel ?
Is there time to see Pitigliano before going to Orvieto?

You are aware that Civita is south of Orvieto, right? Not by much, but it's not really "on the way."
It doesn't take long to visit Civita. We parked along the entrance rode, walked over the bridge, had lunch, and looked all over, and that maybe took 2 hours at most.

Have you tried routing it on mappy.com or viamichelin? I haven't been to Pitigliano so don't know how that would work timewise. I seem to remember Civita di Bagnoregio being about 25 minutes from Orvieto.
The funicular runs from about 8am to 8pm. There are some buses a bit earlier/later if the funicular isn't running. It used to be you bought a combo ticket that covered the funicular and the mini buses at the top to reach your hotel (only two lines). The funicular only ticket was about .20€ cheaper than the combo ticket.
Are you returning to Hertz?

pitigliano would probably take you an hour or so, but you have to get there, park, get out of the town etc. THEN drive to civita di Bagnoregio, THEN drive to Orvieto.
I think it could be done, but I'd want to be on the road by 10am.

When visiting civita, drive and attempt to park just before the walkway to the old town. There are only a few spots, so try to get there early. Otherwise it's probably a 15 minute walk from parking to the walkway.
