Piemonte question / Turin

We are considering Turin as location for a quick last minute girls trip. We only have 2-3 days. Would you recommend staying in Turin and taking day trips by rental car? Or should we move around and stay at a new place each night in the villages? TIA

What do you hope to do with your girlfriends?? Turin is wonderful, and certainly can be entertaining enough without leaving for 2-3 days. Great food and wine, plenty of cultural attactions, walkable...we love it there! If you want to visit the vineyards, a car might be helpful. We adored the area near Alba.

Depends on what you are looking for - nightlife as in any large city or quiet village life. Turin is a great town itself - very unappreciated it seems by most tourists - lots to see and do in it. I would base in Turin as relocating each night is a pain and takes a lot of time. Maybe take trains or buses to some Alpine resorts or even to places like Milan - just an hour away by train and Genoa about 1.5 hrs and a day in either of these fabulous cities would be great too - for info on trains check www.trenitalia.com; www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

just two of us! Quiet.

We we are looking for great food, good wine, some shopping, and something old to look at. :)

we we will probably fly into Milan, then take train to Turin. Will look at train options...just realized I may not have enough time to get international drivers permit!

Plenty to do in Turin itself, and I did a day trip by bus.

I suppose you know that there are direcrt buses from Milan Malpensa aiprort to Turin. The train (either with a huge detour via Milan or with train changes at Busto Arsizio Nord and Novara) is a waste of time and money.

As said above, you can easily spend 3 days in Turin. Day trips by public transport are possible too, for instance to

Aosta Valley castles
Breuil - Matterhorn (the gondolas to the glaciers run in hight season only)
Courmayeur - Mont Blanc
Aosta (roman theatre and museums, medieval city center)

Savona (Italian Riviera): 2 hrs OW by train
Genoa: 2 hrs bay train

Maybe if you like quiet and not a large bustling city you could go to say an Alpine resort and base there.
