advise re. places not to miss near the Acqui Terme spa - how far is Torino (hours)? Milano (hours?) from Acqui Terme. Can we get there on the train? I we are staying in Acqui Terme for 10 days would we fly in and out of Milan or Turin or in one out the other?

We stayed in Acqui Terme for 5 nights this June. We had a wonderful stay. We stayed at Baur B&B (www.baurb&b.com) which was absolutely incredible. It is located up a hill just outside the main city center of Acqui Terme.

I would fly in and out of Milan. Torino and Milano are only about 1.5 hours away. So, with 10 days I would definitely recommend doing a daytrip for each. We absolutely loved Torino. We also visited Alba which we really liked as well as the Barolo and Monteforte d'alba regions - very beautiful.

We didn't do this from Acqui Terme as we were going to be spending 4 nights on the Italian Riviera next, but Genoa is only 1 hour from Acqui, and I believe Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure on the Italian Riviera are doable in a daytrip.

We also loved the town of Acqui Terme, and spent a day exploring there and then resting by the pool at our B&B.

We really enjoyed Piemonte - much less touristed than Tuscany, so very genuine. The people were wonderful as well. We had a lot of great meals but our favorite was at Da Fausto in a small town called Cavatore just outside of Acqui Terme. Be sure to try the carne cruda in Piemonte - it looks like raw hamburger but is very good!!

Hi, Acqui Terme, as jgg says, is about an hour from Genoa, add another fifteen to twenty minutes and you will be in Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligure, and Portofino. Also, we are an hour from Alba and the Barolo/Barbaresco/Roero regions, and sit in the heart of the Monferrato. Asti is about 45 minutes. All of the times I am giving you are by car, and I do recommend having a car if you are staying in this region of Piemonte. The train service is very doable but it takes longer with chenges and... you miss the most beautiful countryside in between stops.

You can fly into either Torino, Milano, or Genoa. MOst people find that Milan Malpensa has the best connections. It is about 1.5 hours from Malpensa to AcquiTerme.

I appreciate your responses to my Piemonte questions. I now have a firmer idea of our trip and need some more suggestions.
We will be flying into Milano in May and have exactly 2 weeks before we meet up with a group in Acqui Terme which will be our base for the next 10 days. We have hiked up and down the mountain sides of the Liqurian Coast (Lerici, Santa Margherita, the 5 villages of Cinque Terre, Portovenere, etc. We love Milan and will most like stay there a few days after we land but where to - between our 10 days in Acqua Terme and landing in Milano?
We will, of course, visit Torino but do we stay there or....where?
