hanl, I'm sorry for your loss of pictures, I can only imagine how frustrating this can be. I travel with two portable storage devices which I use to store the pictures. At the end of each day I transfer the memory card to both devices, so if something goes wrong with one of them, I'd still have backup.

You can buy such a device pretty cheaply, here for example (I got the 60GB version) - http://www.hypershop.com/shop/index.php
They used to offer free worldwide delivery, but I cannot find it now - seems like they changed it recently.

Thanks for the tip, Oleg. I should definitely start backing up my photos - I actually have a 60GB ipod photo that I can use for the purpose, have just been too lazy to use it!
I actually managed to delete my pics while transferring to my PC - stupidly deleted them from the camera before checking they'd uploaded properly :(
