Pickpockets in Prague
My husband and I are leaving for Prague (and UK) next week. We are taking our two grown children with us on a "Heritage Tour" visiting the homes of their grandparents.
When we were in Prague about 4 years ago there was a really big problem with pickpocketing especially on the public transporation system. We are wondering if this has been addressed at all and if things are better now. We realize that this is a problem in any large city but when we were there before there were several Gypsy families who were notorious in the pickpocket business ans we heard of several people who were victims. All of our time in Prague we will be using public transportation and any info or tips for safety are appreciated. Many thanks Sue PS Fodors was FANTASTIC with regard to information re our January, 4 week trip to Thailand and Vietnam. Fodorites are really great. |
No matter where you go, it's prudent to protect yourselves from pickpockets.
Pickpockets go after anything obvious and/or easily accessible, so all you need do is ensure that anything important to you is not. |
our guide in Prague told us specifically to be careful on the trams that run to the tourist areas (old town, castle area etc.) He said pickpockets target these trams and are very sneaky. Good luck, Prague is amazing!

Trams and the metro: prime pickpocket areas. Don't take more money with you than you need for that particular day.
Prague is beautiful! Have fun! |
