A lady I know was walking to her hotel in Barcelona, and a guy came up to her asked her a question and as she was answering him, he reached out, grabbed her strap on her purse and yanked, knocking her off of her feet.He got the purse, she got a concussion from falling on the sidewalk. There have been soo many warnings and stories about pickpockets in Spain that I think I would rather not go somewhere that has that much of a problem.How can you relax and enjoy sightseeing when you are guarding against attack all the time?

Its like being in the States, go about your business but watch out for a terroist attack. In Europe-have a great vacation, but watch out for pick pockets. I guess it does not matter where you live, crime WILL happen.

what about in Italy, if you have your purse on the seat beside you, someone might reach into the car and take it...they are really adept at thievery in some places~ I have heard about the scam with a nice person spilling something on you then trying to clean it off, while someone else is picking your pocket, it was in Pisa..
