Picking Up Phones Messages From Home
On a recent trip to the UK, I was unable to call my voice mail service at home to pick up messages. My service requires me to push the # button before entering the mailbox number, but the British phone system somehow interepted # to mean that I wanted to make another call and cut me off. I never got through to my mailbox and missed 2 weeks worth of phone calls. I never had this problem in any other European country.
My question is whether I'm going to have the same problem in France. Has anyone been successful in retrieving messages when you need to push #?

re: Plan B. I'm not sure how this works, but at my previous job, many people had their voice mail programmed so that it would transfer to email. that way they could see their voicemails while on the road.

I ran into the same thing in Italy and just had to keep trying until I could get it to work. For me, I have to hit a double pound and found doing it immediately when it rang and very quickly seemed to work. I guess another option would be to have a friend check it and email you the contents of the messages.

mdtraveler made a comment which is what I have done. I have my daughter check my messages and write them down. Then she gives them to me when we call each other (this is when I have been in Italy btw). It works real well as she has already taken care of any messages that need immediate attention. And keeps me free to enjoy my trip.

"I haven't tried the tone system to p/u messages from France, but I know it doesn't work from Italy."
That's interesting because I had no problems at all in Italy last year. I've no idea what it all means.
