Pick my itinerary
My husband and I will be spending 6 days in France at the beginning of June. I've been to Paris before, but would only like to spend 2 days there before heading west or north with one or two days around Normandy. What should we do? We do not speak French, but plan to learn as much as we can before we go.

Nancy,
No idea, but will send to the top for you!

The French would say, "Would you kindly assist me with planning my itinerary?"

We will be spending 4 days in Normandy the first week of May. After 4 days in Paris we are renting a car at CDG airport and heading first for Rouen, then Caen, Bayeux and lots of stops in between. Check out the website: www.normandy-tourism.org. There is more than enough for you to fill 2 days. Don't forget the D-Day beaches. We have lots of brochures and ideas from friends. If you have any questions after checking the website you can e-mail me directly.
We don't speak French either but have learned enough words and phrases to be polite. The French people are much nicer than they are given credit for and most of them are very helpful if they see that you are trying. Have a great trip.

Nancy,

4 days is about perfect for a Normandy tour from and returning to Paris. Definitely take a car. I'd recommend the following rough itinerary driving NW and returning due East. Giverny, Rouen, Honfleur, Arromanche, American Cemetery, Point du Hoc, Omaha Beach, Bayeaux, St. Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, then a detour over to Mont St. Michel (you're already so close and it's not to be missed). The return to Paris. Space these out according to your level of interest in each location. There are many nice B&Bs that are convenient and affordable. It's a wonderful trip and very moving if you happen to be a patriotic American.
