Piccolo Hotel Puccini, Lucca

Clean? 95,000 lira for a single room is a reasonable price. Love to hear comments--are the rooms en suite? The web site did not specify.

Stayed there in '96 in a corner room. The accommodation is clean and pleasant, but I found the walls very thin and there was a lot of noise from outside. The bathroom was ensuite but I'm not sure if they have rooms w/out baths too.

The cheapest hotel of our 2 months in Europe last summer, and about midrange of the quality. Small, but charming room. The bath was a step up --literally, and small, but sufficient. The entire hotel was immaculate and one of the friendliest staffs anywhere we've stayed in Italy. They even let guests sit at the front desk and use their computer to check their email. I had the impression that all rooms were ensuite, maybe not, just ask when you book.

Haven't stayed, but can offer the recommendations of Italian friends/family. The location is excellent considering Lucca doesn't have the proportion of hotels that other small Italian cities do. The other budget hotel that is recommended is the Stipino but it's outside the walls of the city.

Stayed there last June, and would again in a minute. Lucca's a favorite, and we'll stay at PHP when we return.
