Photos: Paris Shop Windows
 

I've been posting links to my photos in my trip report, but thought I'd do these miscellaneous shop windows as a separate post. A few photos are not technically window displays.

I love the idea of this nevertheless I have two comments to help improve the project.
It would be nice where they are. Also have you tried using a polarising filter to remove the reflections? Some of the detail is lost because of them.

I'm with ribeirasacra on this.

One note of caution though:
The window displays are often copyrighted, and the shopkeeper/window dresser is within their rights to stop you photographing them. Even in France.

Really enjoyed the pix - Parisian shops are like nowhere else.

ParisJo - The last four photos are from shops at Place des Vosges.
Ribeirasacra and Hetismij - I'm not a very technically knowledgeable photographer -- just a point and shoot.

These are random photos, but I do have a general idea where most were taken -- will possibly go back and give a street name.

I enjoyed the pictures, thank you. I loved how creative the shop owners are there. I wanted to take pics, but was afraid I would offend someone. I did ask at one small store and they said it was ok, but to hurry and not let others see. Anyway, nice to see someone else enjoy the same thing:)

Snow flake, if you have a point and shoot camera then you may not be able to use a polarizing filter. Which is a shame. I too have taken photos of shop windows and regretted not having my filter with me. Like on this occasion.

I have also learnt to now make some notes of locations if needed. It is simple with a digital camera just take a photo of the street name you do not have to store the photo after. Yes I have not done that when I was in Madrid I learnt the hard way and now I am sorry.

ribeirasacra - don't know if I could get a filter for my camera -- we haven't had it long and I must admit I hadn't done my homework on the camera. I know I had the wrong settings selected a number of times when I was taking pictures because when I pulled my camera out of my pocket I didn't doublecheck my settings and didn't notice that the dial had moved when I pulled it out of my pocket. For the most part I don't mind the reflections (except in those instances where you see my reflection in them).

I have gone through and indicated as best as I can remember where these photographs were taken.

I can certainly relate to your not having done homework with your camera, wrong settings, etc. But, your pictures are wonderful. I think the reflections give them texture and dimension that make them much more interesting. They make me long to be walking those streets and "licking the windows."

I PARTICULARLY LOVE THE SHOP LA CURE GOURMAND THAT SOLD SWEETS. I WANDERED IN,WAS GIVEN A SAMPLE OF A DELICIOUS COOKIE. AND THEN OF COURSE I BOUGHT A TIN. THEY WERE FABULOUS.

Nice photos. Hetismij, I wouldn't say that window displays are "often" copyrighted. I would assume it is the case of the main department stores or places like Louis Vuitton who WANT tourists to take photos of their displays. I absolutely cannot imagine a small shop owner being offended by photographs either -- they like to be appreciated, too.

The days when the Japanese merchants would come and snap photos of window displays ended when it became possible to see photos of everything that interested them online -- and in any case, they were generally just photographing the items on sale (clothes, handbags) to be able to copy them. They didn't give a hoot as to whether they were well displayed or not.

I actually don't mind the reflections. It give the shot a multi-layered aspect that's interesting when you catch a glimpse of a person or building in the reflection.

Snowflake, you should enter some of the (you can enter up to 5) in the Fodors "Show Us Your Europe" contest. I think the shots of the patisserie windows have a particularly Parisian feel but I like the one with the chickens too.
