Yo MP,
Point of clarification. Pink Floyd are, of course, finished as a recording artist and touring act. But more than most rock bands, they always seemed to place a huge premium on artistic album covers. The imagery shown on their various covers spoke of a very deliberate approach to bespoke, stand-alone-as-an-artistic-piece quality. One would happily hang a poster of a Floyd album cover on the wall, whereas the same might not be said for most other rock groups' covers. Your lovely B&W image above seems to have that certain 'je ne sais quoi' evident on Floyd covers, a mystery, a variety of interpretations, and certainly a sense of art. OK, next photos? Anyone? I am done. The French foto files. |
Zebec, I did a little album cover research after your first mention & I approve. I'll settle for a greatest hits.
|
MP, kid you not: I have ordered their very latest Greatest Hits Antho from our library. It'll arrive next week and yes, yet again the cover is very artistic.
I am done. The art. |
Great portraits.
The Samaritaine has been unwrapped now as it is nearing completion. Some of it was supposed to open this spring, but a wrench was thrown into the works. No opening date has yet been announced. How about a few Paris mask photos from two days ago? ----> https://anyportinastorm.proboards.co...8800/mask-time |

Ah, so I guess they decided to approve it in spite of the nasty (?) message that I received from them. Or is the word "nasty" reserved for the POTUS?

kerouac,
Since you brought politics into this, just a little known tidbit about the newly announced vice-presidential candidate. I'm originally from Montreal so I found it interesting. At the age of 12 Kamala Harris moved to Montreal and eventually graduated from Westmount High School in Montreal before going on to college. |
I'm so happy to see some fresh photos here. I never get tired of photos of France.
Mme Perdu, that's a timeless photo. Michael, lucky you to have visited Vasterival with the Princess. She had died by the time we took the tour. I actually think it was a post of yours that put Vasterival on my visiting list. Myer, I like all your portraits and street scenes, especially the clothing in the first photo. Also, the curving street is really evocative. Here's a flowery restaurant in Saint Ulphace where we ate lunch one day. Every white van working in the area showed up there at noon. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...bf8b193741.jpg |

LOL Kerouac! C'est parfait.
I am done. The fine. |
kerouac, that's 7 euro for a pinte. Is a pinte equal to a US pint, and are we talking about beer? It seems expensive.
Here's a view of pretty little La Bouille at the foot of the cliffs, from the ferry taking us across the Seine. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...b33e3a39d3.png |
A pint is just 50cl in France. The word is basically only used for happy hour to indicate double-sized beers or in cities served by ferries where there are (were) a lot of British. And since I'm in Le Havre at the moment...
|
Yep...that's roughly a US pint (slightly more). Pricey, yes...but you'll pay close to that in most decent US restaurants in downtown.

Sunrise in Le Havre this morning. But now I'm back in Paris, so I won't be seeing that again. |
kerouac, we're lucky you're an early riser. Where in Le Havre were you that you could get that view of the sunrise?
The bar's pinte for 7.1 euro compares unfavorably to the 33cl bottle of Chimay rouge selling for 1.26 euro at a Leclerc Drive. Maybe this is why we don't go to bars. I guess if we were young, single, and flirtatious it would be worth the extra cost. Unfortunately, neither a bar or a Leclerc is available to me at the moment, but there is one last Chimay in our fridge. Some people come back from France with chocolate or wine; we bring cider or Chimay home. |
Well, that is the Bassin du Commerce, right across from "Le Volcan" by Oscar Niemeyer.. It was at precisely 7am this morning, just as I left the delightful Ibis Styles in one of the Auguste Perret buildings on rue de Paris. It is completely decorated in the original 1950's style, which is why I returned to that hotel for the second time.
In terms of wine, when I returned to Paris, I went to an E. Leclerc supermarket not far from my place and paid 9 euros for a 5l BIB of "mixed" European red wine. As is the case of many of us unrich folk, it is the sort of wine that is perfectly fine for drinking at home but probably not good for inviting guests. (But since I haven't tasted it yet, I could still revise my opinion.) |
I've posted quite a few so some may be dupes
