In maitaitom's wonderful restaurant thread - https://www.fodors.com/community/eur...urope-1690876/ - I mentioned a trip to the south of France many years ago during which we spent a very memorable night in a hotel restaurant in Sarlat.
As fate would have it, in the course of scanning old pictures into digital before they decompose into dust (thousands down, thousands to go) I came across some snapshots taken on that trip, so why not share them? The new Saab we had acquired through their European delivery program, this time on the Mediterranean coast. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...cd8b845960.jpg The farmhouse outside Narbonne we rented for a few days/nights https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...ae87f4cab3.jpg Narbonne (or possibly Perpignan) street scenes https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...1d6a716c81.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...25c3eb34a5.jpg Narbonne market https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...0ba049e35e.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...e219239bb5.jpg The Canal de la Robine, a few steps from our house https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...b5c259b230.jpg |
Gardyloo, just fascinating to see your shots from that era. One does not see many images of Narbonne and Perpignan. Glad to hear that your new car experience resulted in a good time.
Kerouac, that is a classy idea on the part of the authorities to post that photo collage as such. Society tends to take front-liners fighting in the trenches for granted. Coq, chilly here too, about 5 degrees below the norm. Tossing a coin about whether to turn on the heat for the season. I am done. The never-ending thread. |

Love that cat. Thank you.

Merci Treesa. I am done. The sharing. |
Lyons
Nice pic!

I can only sigh at that photo, both for its subject and the excellence of the photo. This is a part of real France, no matter how much we visitors prefer to focus on France's grand chateaux, wine estates, fashion, fine restaurants, and so on.
France is currently #19 in the world in rates of death per millions from coronavirus--#16 if you don't count San Marino, Andorra, and Sint Maarten. The world is changing and who knows what life will be like for the French when the virus has done its worst. Of course, we all have the same fears about what the virus will do to our own countries. Thanks for the photo, kerouac. |
In the fantasy world of "Paris is always wonderful," somebody is supposed to say "How nice that it is still warm enough to relax outdoors."

zebec, gorgeous Lyon shots and golden lighting.

Love that shot of Loches, Coquelicot. I was there on a field trip in college many years ago - lovely place that you don’t hear about much.
And I’ve been enjoying all the photos on this thread so thanks to everyone for sharing. |
kerouac..........what is that structure in front of the Eiffel all about?
|
They are clearly just doing some renovation works. However, if you turn around and look in the direction of the Ecole Militaire, you will see the construction site of the temporary Grand Palais, which will replace the big one for 3 or 4 years.

Chateau at loches
Its beautiful!

There must have been a football game against a British team that day, because that is not at all a French custom.

Not sure what to make of this pic
Are you sure this is a welcome?!!

It was our first day ever in Paris (June 19, 2004) and we were really enjoying our ride on one of the big Bateaux Parisiens boats . As we were nearing Notre Dame, we saw several guys lining up on the left bank. All of a sudden, 9 of them turned around and mooned our boat. I have no idea what motivated them (I'm guessing there was alcohol involved) but it was actually pretty funny - especially the guy in the center of the picture. I'm just happy none of them fell in the Seine.
|
Your boat getting mooned
I guess it's both funny and offensive!
|
ldatt22 - I apologize that my picture has offended you. I will ask the moderators to remove it from this thread.

Moon pic
No worries! Maybe they meant it to be funny.

We love Corey’s rides (and walks). He is one of several bloggers (?) we watch regularly that help us feel a bit more connected. I had missed this one, though, so thanks kerouac.
|
whitehall, you get such great color in your photos. You came along at just the right time to catch the young car buffs in their driving caps.
I love that mural, looked it up, and discovered that Cannes has more murals to the cinema. I'll keep coming back to this. |
kerouac..........my morning coffee was enhanced by a bike ride through Paris. The scenes along The Seine
took me back to all of our nightly wanderings on Ile Saint-Louis. |
Is there a part #2?
