Wonderful, Dave! Brought back memories of my trip back in January, which also included Salisbury, Stonehenge and Avebury.
Now I want to go back! Shrewsbury looks beautiful. Thanks for posting!

Wow Dave these are GREAT pics. We loved York and Fountains Abbey so much-and your pics reminded me of how badly I want to return! We didn't get to spend any time in Shrewsbury-just drove through (it was a Saturday and THRNGED with visitors) and now I definately want to visit there as well. When did you go? Its interesting to see the differences in the pics-we went in early MArch last year-your pics are much more green. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Ani,
I just got back on Sunday. I was in York for 4 days, including 2 day trips, Shrewsbury for 3 days, including a trip to Ironbridge and one day waiting for delayed trains, and three days in Salisbury, including a day trip.
I've been to Britain in May/June several times and the weather is usually fantastic. Not so this time. It was gray, rainy, and VERY humid for the first half of the trip, and then hot, sunny and VERY humid for the remainder. But yes, it was green.
Shrewsbury is worth a day, especially if you like half-timbered houses and/or Edith Pargeter (aka Ellis Peters) novels. There aren't really any "Wow" sights (the castle and abbey are both heavily modified/modernized) but lots of character throughout the town. It's also a good base for exploring one of the less-touristy areas of England.

Thanks for the rundown! I could see you had some pretty rainy pics -but it made for a dramatic backdrop, espeically for the Minster.
FYI if you are interested in viewing any of our pics they are on

And click on UK pictures. You will see we also have this years Scotland pics there as well.

Thanks Dr and Ani - thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photos. Ani - your welsh photos bring back lovely memories for me. As a child we always took family holidays in Wales touring in a caravan (I think thats an 'RV'?). We had great fun back then, beautiful scenery, we climbed mountains and the times we had on the gorgeous sandy beaches were wonderful. Very simple, but warm memories
I think today's kids would be rather bored with that type of holiday, more's the shame

Ani:
Loved the photos (esp. Colorado blizzard: I happened to be there on holiday when it was at its worst -- flew into DEN the day before. phew!)
Just one thing, though. I notice that your England pics contain a lot of Wales pics too. In the same way that Canada and the USA are different countries, so are Wales and England. Welsh people tend to get a bit narked when labeled as English (wouldn't anyone? So maybe they should be called your UK pics? UK = England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.
Cheers,
A Picky Welshman!

Hey wait a minute! Even though my husband did put "England" on top (bad husband) right underneath, where you click, is the title "click here to see our UK pics"!!!
I am a conscientious American!
And FYI-Wales was AMAZING. I'm a huge Llewellyn The Great fan, so visiting Dolwyddellyn and Dolbadarn (excuse the spelling) was really fantastic.

drsawyers: Great photos. They all bring back memories - especially Salisbury, Durham and the North Yorkshire Moors railway. BTW - it is wonderful to have photos posted on such a user friendly site. It took seconds to load instead of the minutes some sites take.
Ani: When I originally looked at your Scotland pix I missed the link to your earlier England shots. Nice pictures!
