Photographing Pitigliano

Any suggestions on the best way to photograph the city carved in the rock formation? A specific road outside the city? I'm looking to get that panoramic shot I see on the websites. Thanks. Diane

Hmmm. It's hard to describe, and it depends on where you are coming from, but I can also tell you that Pitigliano is not that big a town, and you can drive around it more than once to find the photo you are looking for.

I was coming from Orvieto, and there is a very obvious entry portal to the town from that side. From there, I headed south, where a road zigzags up the opposite hill, giving a very panoramic -- almost cinemascope-like view of the town.

By the way, when I was doing research on that area on the web I came across a photography tour for amateur photographers, who take people to all kinds of Etruscan sites and "secret" places in the Maremma. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it, but if you are interested, you might try some googling with terms like "photography tours classes Etruscan Pitigliano maremma" and it might pop up for you.

Nessundorma, thanks for your input. This is one photograph I've got to have.

Here is my version, which was not a great shot that day. That location is obvious--you will find it.

Beautiful shot, Bob. I liked the cloud formation. Sometimes clouds are preferable to blue skies.
