Am hoping to find someone living or visiting Cuenca, Spain... or who plans to visit Cuenca anytime this spring summer or fall, who has a digital camera and would be willing to take a photo, then e-mail it to me, of an outdoor statue located in a turnaround in Cuenca.

I was in Cuenca, a marvelous town, last spring but unable to get a photo. If you happen to be from the states, I'll reciprocate with a good bottle of Spanish wine.... and if we live close to one another I'll be happy to share a couple of bottles with ya. If that won't be do-able, then we can work out some other sort of mutually argeeable reciprocation.

Have you tried zooming in with Google maps street view? Once you find the name of the statue/turnaround, you can Google it and perhaps come up with photos.

There are 14 monuments/statues in Cuenca-- I suspect you are looking for the "Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús" which is located at sort at a hill/lookout point. Try http://tinyurl.com/bl63sc6

Viajero: That's not it but thanks for your response. Here's the location, a description and what I'd like:
The statue is in the out-of-doors and in the center of a local Roundabout at Poligono S2 Canadillas(A-40)/Av. RepublicaArgentina(N-320a) @ Av. San Ignacio de Loyola, and across the street from the Cuenca Naturaleza Y Cultura.

The statue itself is that of a sitting bare bosom woman with long flowing hair and arms outstretched in support of her sitting position behind her. I'd like to get a full digital photo of the statue, its name and the sculptor who created it.

Viajero: Well that indeed is the statue... but not the type photo I'm looking for. I need a much closer up photo..... one that fills the entire frame and that is a direct view as opposed to the side view in this one. I'd also like to get the name of the statute and the sculptor who created it.

So I suppose I'm pretty much dependent on someone being there (resident or visitor)to get the job done (would you happen to know anyone?)..... or a return trip for me!!!!

The sculptor is Javier Barrios, born in Cuenca (1952)

Wontrustout, I went to Google Maps and zoomed in on the intersection/roundabout. When it switched to street view, I was able to "walk" around the roundabout so that I could get a frontal view and zoom in on the statue. It is not very clear, but I note it is in front of the "Cuenca Naturaleza y Cultura"

I suggest you contact them and ask if one of their staff could direct you to a suitable photo, or even walk over during his lunch hour and snap a photo for you. The internet is your friend!

Revulgo: And thank you... how did you know that or find that out. And clicking on the web site you gave was great... I presume that was/is the sculptor and the statue before it was moved to the roundabout. I will look him up... thanks again.

This statue is a bronze replica of 'Despertar' (Awakening) sculped in stone by Leonardo Martínez Bueno in 1943. 'Despertar' was installed in the Parque de Santa Ana but damaged through the years.

Google Translate is your friend, Wontrustout. Simply write out your letter in English, cut and paste it into Google Translate, and the web will do the work. If you keep the wording and grammar simple it does an acceptable job. Not perfect, but probably understandable.

I usually send both the English and translated versions just in case there is some confusion on the other end. The people you are writing to are working in the Cuenca tourist site, so I'm sure someone will read English.
