Thanks Bob!!
Really enjoyed the pictures.

So many of my favorite places. You brought a smile to my face today. Thanks.

How are you converting the slides to digital? A photo scanner?

tpatricco Oct 21st, 2004 11:47 AM

Wonderful photos! Makes me want to go back to Italy...NOW!! Thanks for sharing them!

bobthenavigator Oct 21st, 2004 11:51 AM

I am using Walmart. Their prices are too good to pass up. Some of these were digital--some of the Tuscany shots from my last trip--but the rest were all old slides--some from 1984.

Bob - great shots, enjoyed them very much.

And Bailey your photos are wonderful too. Mine are at pbase.com/annforcier. Maybe we could get lots of people to post the websites of their Italy photos and then bookmark this thread so whenever anyone needs an Italy fix they could go to it.

isabel, that's a great idea. My daughter is going to Italy next June and she can't get enough of looking at photos! Bob and Bailey, yours are wonderful.

WOW!! Bob, these are magnificent. I'd seriously consider buying a few and framing for my walls. amazing! these were from slides? how did you scan them in, do you have a special scanner? and what kind of camera?

I have always been told slides are the way to go. haven't done it yet. maybe this trip coming up I'll try a few...

Bob:
Fabulous pictures. I'm most interested in the exact location of "Devil's Bridge". I could bring my watercolors on my next trip to Italy.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice collection of photos, Bob. Now where have I seen some of these before? ;)

I'm trying hard not to think about going back to Italy, because it is still 7 1/2 months away (who's counting). This doesn't help!!!

Great photos Bob! Now I know what you look like after reading your advice for so long! I loved the photo of the gondolier's hat.

We've been wanting the get a slide scanner to convert my Dad's old slides of Germany and Austria from when he was stationed there in the mid 1950's. Maybe I should check into the Walmart idea. You've given me the shove I need. Thanks.

bobthenavigator Oct 22nd, 2004 05:54 AM

Thank you all for your comments. I have now gone digital but still feel that some of my old slides have even better resolution.
Ann, I had seen your gallery before and am humbled by your gift. You must be a pro.
Bailey, those are not photos---that is art. Just amazing scenes so artfully done. What software are you using? The shading you get is fabulous.

I really like the format at the Pbase site. That framing enhances the images.

Treesa, the Devils Bridge is just north of Lucca near where the rivers merge. It dates back to about 1200.

Wonderful Photos Bob. Thanks for sharing the visuals.

Love the shot titled "Tuscan Morning" This last trip in Rome my friend spotted an elderly woman in "her" storefront window on Coronari shaving. I think she was doing it there trying to get the best light.

Lovely photos, Bob! They brought back some great memories ...

great pics..thanks for sharing..

Makes me glad I've got plans to go back to Italy in the spring

bobthenavigator Oct 22nd, 2004 08:21 AM

ECAT, That man is actually my friend Frank when we stayed in a farm house in Tuscany in 1996. But, it was not posed.

ecat Oct 22nd, 2004 09:18 AM

Bob glad to hear you know him, I had wondered if that man knew you were taking his pic!

The best shots are never posed...

bobthenavigator Oct 22nd, 2004 11:33 AM

Actually, we have traveled with Frank and his wife 4 times now---Tuscany, Greece, Portugal and Yellowstone. Great travel companions are hard to find.
