Phoning USA from Greece
1. Is the best way to phone back to the USA from Greece to buy a phonecard from the corner kiosks and use the yellow OTE phones?
2. To dial to the USA, you insert the card and dial 00+1+ US area code + number Thanks. Rick in Maryland |
Hi rick,
Here is a site with directions for calling into, out of and within http://kropla.com/dialcode.htm ((I)) |
My husband was in Athens, Greece, for about 4 months, and he found that the cheapest and easiest way for him to call me was to go to an Internet cafe and call thru the Net. There are a couple (maybe more) different websites that you can call thru. If you're interested you might go to a search engine and see what you come up with. I can't remember the site he used, sorry!

That's probably the most convenient way. Just watch the time units ticking off on those calling cards carefully. They'll be used up very quickly on an overseas call.

We got a phonecard in Athens (from our tourguide; he gave us the remainder of his card) and used it to call the US from the islands and even Italy. We didn't have to use the yellow phones; we called from our hotel rooms. We just followed the dialing instructions on the back of the card. It was quite simple, and much less expensive than dialing direct from the hotels.
