Phoning home from Scotland

Our daughter will be in Scotland with her cell phone (O2 Scottish sim card). Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to use the cell phone to call the US? I assume that using a land line would be cheaper, but she has the cell and I am sure that that is what she will use. Thanks for any help.

The cheapest way is to wander into any small shop and buy a phone card. I don't know of any deals - except some long term contracts possibly - that give you cheap international calls on mobiles.

She could also consider using the internet to make calls - google "Skype" and "voip"

Tell her to wander into any mobile phone store and buy a t mobile UK sim card (they are very very cheap) top it up with whatever she wants (they'll give her a swipe card which can be used to top up throughout the UK...then program the number 07755 220 220 into the card and she can call the USA for 3p/minute...(she'll also be able to receive your calls for free, you pay the freight at whatever your US ld carrier charges for calls to UK mobiles)...and she'll be able to call other landlines and mobiles in the UK for 12p/minute...

If she is too lazy to go off to a T Mobile UK store, she can look it up on the web and they will post a sim card to her home (info is available on the web site http://www.yourcallworld.com/payg/ca...px?country=USA

...or she can splurge and go off to an Orange UK store where they will give her an Orange Call Abroad sim card for free if she tops up with £10 and she can call the USA for 5p/minute (I think it is timed to the second not sure though)...calls to other networks are somewhat more expensive than T Mobile UK but Orange coverage is reported to be better than T Mobile UK....

One of the cheapest at 1.5p per minute from the UK to the USA including US mobiles is www.phonecard-services.co.uk
On the downside it requires a set up fee of £25 but that is then able to be used on calls, but for that money it would need a lot of calls.
