Philharmonic in Wien

I'll be traveling to Vienna in mid May.... how do I book tickets for the philharmonic in advance? I haven't booked a hotel yet... still weighing options but might do something more upscale vs. a smaller boutique hotel- depends..... thanks !

Subscription series concerts are officially sold out. Other concerts usually go on sale the month before the concert. Some ticket sources are:
www.musikverein.at
www.konzerthaus.at
www.jeunesse.at

I booked a standing room ticket at the Musikverein about a month in advance.

Don't overlook the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. BTW, look at my previous postings regarding the Best Western Tigra of check it out on Trip Advisor. It may appeal to you.

The Vienna Philharmonic sells "leftover" tickets one week in advance of the concert.

http://www.wienerphilharmoniker.at

Click on the calender, pick your date/concert, then click on the performance. It'll tell you when the "leftover" tickets go on sale.

These are standing room tickets, and also some "podium" tickets. We got 2 podium tickets when we were in Vienna last Nov. Basically, these are chairs on the stage behind the orchestra. The sound quality isn't that great, but a good view of the musicians and the conductor.

I doubt you can get a regular ticket unless you go the concert that evening and buy them from scalpers.

3 days before a concert, we actually went to the Phil office on Kartner Ring and bought standing room for 4.5 euro....CHEAP! Then show up about 80-90 minutes before and you should be able to get the front row of standing room which is absolutely amazing. If you were at Davies Hall in San Francisco, that same location would sell for about $90. Enjoy - it is an awesome experience!
