I love the fountain that's reminiscent of the Pl. de la Concorde's. I think it's at the intersection of Arch St. and the Parkway.

I can't believe no mentioned this:
E.A.G.L.E.S EAGLES!!!! |
The best cheesesteak is at a place called Izkebabel's or something like that. Way better than Pat's or Geno's.

You realize, of course, that the "accent" changes considerably once you get on the west side of Broad Street (where they go to Stone Harbor instead of Wildwood)...anyway..why copy this to the US Board...it's a welcome relief here and besides, Philadelphia is a wonderful city even if #23 is no longer running on the rails!

If you're still in Philly may I suggest dinner at Buddakhan? Try the calamari salad and the donuts or chocolate bento box for dessert. You won't be sorry.

You wanna European connection?
Philly and Monk's - the best place West of Brussels to sample Belgian beers: http://www.monkscafe.com/ And you'll get some nice German brews and food at Ludwig's: http://www.ludwigsgarten.com/ And just like Boston and NYC Philly has its share of Irish and English pubs scattered throughout the city. The are around South Street is teaming with them. |
What did WC Fields say about Philly or perhaps is said to have said?
|
On the whole I'd rather be in Philadelphia?

Double thanks MRand...yowe, fun stuff.
Don't forget the Reading Terminal for a Di Nicks roast pork w/prav ah lone ay cheese. |
I beg to differ. The best cheesesteaks are at Jim's.
MRand - I love the area around the Art Museum, too. I take my rollerblades down there as much as I can. I love the spring when the cherries are in bloom, and early May when the azalea garden is in bloom. The best long bike ride is Art Museum to the end of Valley Green at the NWern Ave. and back. |
also got back from two nights in philadelpha and we were very impressed with the whole city and attractions, and well-kept historical area.
had a lovely meal and great ice cream.. ( the latter at franklin fountain)... would go back in a pinch to enjoy more in depth what we were only able to slightly indulge ourselves in. reading up on history is of benefit to enjoy the surroundings even more. it was very moving to actually be inside the christ church. we will go back! |
