That's because he learned French from Inspector Closeau...now, if you will excuse me, I must find a reum for my minkey.

santamonica Mar 17th, 2014 08:33 AM

I'm learning french from Pimsleur and the Pink Panther. I'm telling vu, it's no walk in the Tuileries.

It's not my dog.

IMDonehere Mar 17th, 2014 08:45 AM

I do the same thing, I learn a foreign language so no one will understand me somewhere besides home.

jersey61 Mar 17th, 2014 09:00 AM

IMD...vu must have a lisonce to post here. it iz tha leahw.

santamonica Mar 17th, 2014 09:52 AM

It's not moi. It's the monkey.

I'm on pimsleur disc 3, unit 6. I can ask a woman "would you like to drink something at my place?" Sounds like "escuvu vudrie bois quelcuchoz chez moi?" That should be a useful expression. I'm practicing while DW is at work.

My license has been revoked on Fodor's more than once.

My wife is learning Flemish for our upcoming trip and it is just so hard to work "I need new spark plugs" into a conversation.

jersey61 Mar 17th, 2014 10:08 AM

just make sure you have some Pabst blue ribbon or Olympus, (think that's a california beer). None of that expensive French wine. After all, we want the very best for our French friends.

nytraveler Mar 17th, 2014 10:09 AM

Not sure what language - but not French - either spoken or written. My accent is bad - but a whole lot better than that.

And it is NOT my minkee that needs a rrrheum.

Cowboy1968 Mar 17th, 2014 11:29 AM

A friend was born of Mexican parents.

He speaks Spanish fluently.

Or so he thought until he went to Spain.

((I))
He was forced to speak English to be understood.

nytraveler Mar 17th, 2014 04:36 PM

Yes, there are about 14 different types of Spanish. We were working on a translation of a patient education booklet in my office - done by an approved healthcare translation service.

Then several people in the office looked at it - and picked out everything wrong - all different - based on if their background was cuban, mexican or puerto rican - verbs, idioms, etc - all different.

One year we were staying in Arles at the famous hotel Nord Pinus. To give you an idea of My French. Some friends in Provence asked where we were staying. I said the North Penis.

IMDonehere Mar 17th, 2014 06:05 PM

I said the North Penis.

At least you were popular.

santamonica Mar 18th, 2014 05:45 PM

tuscanlifeedit Mar 18th, 2014 06:43 PM

Pepi LaPew taught me everything I know.

cigalechanta Mar 18th, 2014 07:09 PM

Tuscan, but he was so aggesive, you liked that?

kerouac Mar 18th, 2014 10:26 PM

More seriously, I have always been impressed by another actor who learned French by spending just 6 months in Aix-en-Provence.
