Perrisa Beach 'Santorini
Have picked Perrisa as my area to stay and wonder about the black beach
Is it just like other sand --same texture Or is it gritty and should one have those rubber shoe footware Thanks in advance |
Perissa is one of the package holiday resorts on the opposite side of the island from the caldera villages. The beach is volcanic grit rather than sand, so some sort of footwear is advisable.
Santorini is very small, so it's quick to get from Perissa to Fira by bus, and transfer there to Oia and other parts of the island. Prices in Perissa are cheaper than Fira, Oia, etc, so if you don't care about a hotel with a caldera view it's a good budget choice. If your hotel advertises a sea view, it will be looking out into open sea toward the island of Anafi rather than the caldera. |
Not fussed about caldera veiw as am sure a night or two i will head to a restaurant/taverna with a veiw
Thank you for heads up on footware You have been very helpfull |
Santorini will be great experience Overall. Basically all beaches are black. If you wish for white and sandy, go to Mykonos as well....just 2 hours by Ferry and woth an aditional stay :-)
|
Even beter, go to Naxos or Paros! Beaches just s good as Mykonos, and lower prices too. Naxos and Paros are both on the Blue Star route between Santorini and Piraeus (Athens).

Thanks and have been to Mykinos before but once I leave
Santorini have a 7 day stay on Naxos which appears to have some nice sandy beach's Thanks to all for respondind it is appreciated |
Coolmover, you may have been composing your post during my last reply. Indeed Naxos has some beautiful sandy beaches! The sandy beaches in Greece are golden, not white. Actually, when I found out how white coral beaches are formed, they lost some of their appeal to me. Do a google search using the string "how white coral beaches are formed", and look at the first few hits. I promise you will be surprised! ;-)

Heimdall has always been helpful when it comes to Greece.
Not that I have anything useful to add, I'm just longing for something english on the board at the moment. |
