Perraudin - Anyone been there lately?
I have seen plenty of posts by people who are planning to go, but not many recent reviews. Is it still as good? Will they take reservations?
|
When I googled I saw one reference to the idea that Madame Rameau accepts reservations only for early diners -- between 7 and 8. After that, diners must wait at the bar.
|
Thank the Lord. I can't wait much beyond 1900.

Thanks Neopolitan. I had a feeling it was a "come early" kind of place. I had it marked as a place to go but haven't read mch positive or negagtive lately.
Degas - thanks for our input(?). |
I'm not sure what you mean by a "come early" kind of place. I'd say the reason they take reservations before 8 is because no Parisians would think of eating before that hour. In other words, nothing happens before at least 8 so they might as well take reservations to encourage getting business during that slow hour.
One thing I've always smiled about is the number of people here who talk about which restaurant was all tourists and which one was mainly locals. Sometimes they are the same restaurant. I've always noticed if you want to be among Parisians instead of Americans dining in Paris -- you would be wise waiting until at least 9 or so. |
I see what you mean. i was thinking that you had to get there early to get a table. It seems like later people have a drink at the bar while they wait for a table. I have since read that tables turn quickly here. This and sitting at a bar both seem unusual for a Paris restaurant, n'est-ce pas?

When we were there a few years ago, it was a similar experience both times: Within a half hour to an hour after it opened (at 7:30, I think), the place filled up. So, I do't think the early-reservation policy makes much of difference. Anyway, it's definitely worth a visit for dinner! I understand that they now take credit cards.
As far as whether the early crowd consisted of tourists of locals, it was a mix. There was definitely a goodly number of Parisians there at the early hour, maybe because they know that they'd have to wait for table if they came later! |
Forgive the typos. The first sentence in the second paragraph should read, "tourists OR locals."

We went to Perraudin last Monday. We arrived at 7:45 and the restaurant was filled by 8:00. I heard no French by any of the patrons and, in fact, we were seated beside a couple from Orangeville, ON, - within a 100 miles of our home.
The meal was quite good - escargot, beef Burguginone and nougat ice cream (choices from the formula). It was unusual in the timing. The pace was torrid from France standards as they had us fed and out the door by 9:00. The reasonable price is obviously compensated for by turning the table quickly. Personally, I would prefer to pay a few more Euros and relax. Madame does now accept Visa - and I mean only Visa. Would I go again? No. |
